Stool for Quantitative Fecal Fat |

Your doctor has asked us to make an appointment for you to have a stool test for fecal fat.
Fecal Fat is a test that measures the total amount of fat present in your stool sample, a
sample that has been collected during a specified time period. You may choose to have the
test done at one of the following laboratories:
- Outpatient Laboratory, Hermann Professional Building, Suite 1521, 704-6200.
Monday-Thursday (8:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.).
- Outpatient Laboratory, Houston Medical Center, Suite 630, 704-1724.
Monday-Thursday (8:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.).
- Hermann Hospital Clinical Laboratory, Basement of Jones Pavilion, 797-2857.
Monday-Thursday (8:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.).

| For Best Results |

- Collect your 1-3 day stool specimen in a pre-weighed, non-absorbant, airtight container.
- If you have taken barium or antibiotics within one week before collecting the sample,
please tell your doctor or the technician.
- Collect all the stools you pass for 24 hours, beginning with your next bowel movement.
- Refrigerate the closed container during the time that you are collecting the stools.
- When collection is complete, close the container tightly and return it to the same
laboratory where you got the contained as soon as possible.
- Make sure that the container is clearly labeled with your name and patient identification
number, and that the laboratory request slip is securely attached to it.

Please be sure to bring the paperwork your doctor gave you (orders for the
laboratory).
If you currently are not registered at Hermann Hospital, the Outpatient
Laboratories at Hermann Professional Building and Houston Medical Center will register
you when you arrive for your blood test. If you are, be prepared to tell us:
- your name
- your date of birth
- your social security number
- your doctor's name
- the name of the test your doctor wants you to have.
If you are having your test done at a laboratory in the Hermann Hospital complex,
you may park in the Hermann Professional Building Garage.
