Feature

Gross Kodachromes

1

Arteriolonephrosclerosis. Finely granular external surface.

2

Recent renal infarcts. Classical shape. Yellow color with an hemorrhagic border.

3

Hydronephrosis. Marked dilatation of pelvic calyceal system and thinning of the renal cortex.

4

Chronic pyelonephritis and hydronephrosis. Note asymmetrical involvement of kidneys. Both kidneys are involved but one is more severely involved with marked atrophy and the parenchyma and features of end stage renal disease.

5

End stage renal disease. Marked atrophy of the renal parenchyma and multiple small cysts.

6 and 7

End stage kidney close to a transplanted kidney with infarct. Note the difference in size. The cut surface (7) shows the marked thinning of the renal parenchyma in the end stage kidney.

8

Acute rejection, severe. Extensive parenchymal hemorrhage and areas of necrosis.

9

Renal adenoma. Small round yellow nodule.

10

Oncocytoma. Well circumscribed tan mass with central scar.

11

Angiomyolipoma. Massive hemorrhage. Small area of viable renal parenchyma can be seen.

12

Renal cell carcinoma, clear all type. Well circumscribed, yellow tumor mass.

13

Renal cell carcinoma. Tumor with hemorrhage and necrosis localized in the upper pole of the kidney.

14

Renal cell carcinoma. Large, partial yellow mass, protruding to the outside.

15

Renal cell carcinoma, granular cell type. Large, tan tumor protruding to the outside of the renal parenchyma.

16

Transitional cell carcinoma, renal pelvis. Tumor mass localized in the renal pelvis.
